- "Poisonous snakes should be careful not to bite their own tongues." Refers to: Aquaepurae being careful not to get caught in a lie.
- "In too deep." Refers to: Being caught in a lie, and/or being in a dangerous situation.
Edra:
- "Better alive and damned than dead and saved." Refers to: Sarcastic thoughts on a lack of afterlife.
- "You can't teach ilysin to swim." Refers to: Some things just can't be done.
- "I've never been fond of vegetables." Refers to: I don't like rowans.

- "May it never bear fruit!" or "Never may it prosper" Refers to: A generic, formulaic curse that is adapted to many situations.
- "Thrice curse the sun." Refers to: An exclamation of frustration and anger. (This saying spread to mysrrae, halaks, humans, and atlasia as well)
- "Not every dreamer wakes." Refers to: Some things just can't be done.
Dalara:
- "May my fur fall off." Refers to: As a promise that something will be done.
- "I'd rather serve the rowans." Refers to: To indicate that you're totally and completely opposed to something.
- "Like a Khashi in Dalara." Refers to: Something that is out of place or doesn't belong.
Other:
- "He who is without duty is without life." Refers to: Ilysin concepts of honor and death.
- "Crazier than a mysrra in battle." Refers to: Atlasian observation of fanatical combatants. Means 'someone who's completely nuts.'
