Several factors govern how quickly you move from room to room: the pace of your movement, your posture, how much you're carrying, your physique, and how tired you are.
You can move at any of the following rates:
walk, jog, run, sprint
...and in any of the following postures:
stand, stoop, sit, lie, swim, fly
The faster you move, the more quickly you get tired. Rate is independent of your current environment and posture; that is, you can still change your movement rate to sprint if you're swimming or lying down.
If you want to keep going in one direction for a considerable time, you can turn "travel mode" on. When this is on, you will automatically continue to move in the same direction once you are done moving; this will continue until it is impossible or until you choose to stop with the "stop" command or as a side effect of another command.
If you are travelling, and your race cannot breathe underwater, you will automatically stop at the edges of lakes, rivers, and oceans.
Syntax:
travel [on|off|stop]
