Accursed Lands Wiki

Our goal with Accursed Lands is to provide an immersive roleplaying environment, with the focus of our players upon the story and life of their character within the game world.  We ask all of our players to focus upon your own storyline and in character experiences, and not to concentrate on or concern yourself with the mechanics that support and maintain your play - except where it jars you from your play through an error or inconsistency.  For those issues, please let us know with a bug report (see help note for how).

Our wish is to offer you a world where your character (and you) are considering and experiencing that world from a realistic standpoint.  For example, when faced with the choice between a short sword or a long sword, an IC focus for the choice between them would consider how it feels and works for you while using each or which was easiest to grab fast when you needed a weapon right away.

A mechanically focused approach would be concerned with figuring out or discussing each weapon's type or the damage, speed, weight, or factors of each.

Many games you may have played in the past are highly mechanically focused.  Experienced players of these are often able to quickly list the 'best' items and opportunities in the game world, and often know what the exact differences between these and the other choices are.

Real life is nothing like that - and Accursed Lands offers an immersive in-character environment - an illusion of real life.  In order to create this illusion, we need every player's help, for you to choose to turn your attention away from issues and questions of game mechanics and towards the immersive environment.

The example about the sword is the exact same question looked at from both sides - which sword is best for me?  The only difference is your focus as you ask it, which is the very essence of what Accursed Lands is  - are you acting as an immersed player bringing the world even more to life, or are you reinforcing to yourself (and perhaps others) a sense of separation from and disbelief in this world?
