SYNTAX:

apply
apply [for] <job>
check job
 resign

By applying for a job in one of the game's cities, a character can earn money and even gain skill while offline, freeing up play sessions for whatever their player might desire. To acquire a job, one can use the "apply" command in a city room to see what potential positions are available there.  To select one, use "apply [for] <job name>"; this will either employ that character or inform them if they're short on requirements (which may be a combination of skills, stats, or equipment). Good places to look for jobs include taverns, docks, city gates, and shops. A character who has a job will begin working there as soon as they are no longer actively being played by logging out entirely.  A working character must be left offline for a minimum amount of time, usually about one or two IC days, for them to collect the fruits of their labors, and jobs usually cap out their potential rewards at around three consecutive payments.

Employed characters must log out near where they work to collect.  This can be any valid room in the city where their job is located, as well as nearby rooms in the wilderness.  As this can vary based on different jobs, the "check job" command can be used to show a character's current state of employ and whether or not they're close enough to get paid. Though the majority of jobs can be found in populated cities and towns, there may be some located in less obvious places for people who like to explore and travel.

A character with a job doesn't need to perform any particular actions while online to keep said job, so long as they log in at least once every RL month and are active for about thirty RL minutes while logged in.  The only threats to a character's continued employment are inactivity or active resignation. Characters can have one job at a time. To quit a job, either apply for another or type "resign" at any point.
